A data warehouse shatters job routines. Frequently, entire organizations feel the earthquake when data are consolidated and then made easily available to users who never had access to it before. Grassroots data-warehouse power changes both work relationships and the nature of work itself. The biggest bottom-line impact to the organization, however, comes with the change in the role of the financial people within departments. The downside of decision-empowerment falls on the shoulders of middle-managers. Their role of data filter is obsolete. IT managers should be aware that their data warehouse concepts may encounter a wall of resistance from the core of the organization, which fears employment losses. To counter fears, a change manager can be appointed - a respected employee from the user department who knows and can communicate the value of the warehouse.
