The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) places an almost impossible burden on contracting officers to ensure that procurements are procedurally perfect. The clear implication of this is that contractors are expected to provide constructive suggestions concerning acquisitions and that contractor views are to be given due consideration by contracting officers. The discussion intended in this article are the common mistakes perceive as occurring frequently in regard to procurements. This article is not intended to be an indictment or criticism of the government's procurement processes. Nor is it a view that contractors do not make numerous mistakes in the procurement process. However, because of the requirements of FAR 1.602-1 (b), contracting officers have a unique, and possibly impossible, responsibility. This article is only intended to point out some areas where the government acquisition team can better fulfill this unique responsibility and to provide the reasons that an improvement can be made.
