Increasing concern about human resources generally and human resource development (HRD) in particular has encouraged new people to enter the field. Management is also looking more closely at the HRD operation because of the need for improvements in productivity and other performance aspects. The result is an increasing emphasis on the definition of HRD and its contributions to the organization. HRD may be viewed as an organized learning experience within a given period of time with the objective of producing the possibility of performance change. HRD is concerned with helping employees learn skills that will be applied in their place of work under regular supervision and management. The defining process is not an easy one, and it is further complicated by trying to reach a definition of organizational development. The process of defining the field of HRD should be a continuing one.
